Storms

Severe T-Stormphoto © 2010 Michael Styne | more info (via: Wylio) The thunder is booming.  It is booming so loudly that my windows are rattling.  It is supposed to continue like this all day.  It is supposed to be like this tonight.  I want it to stop.  I don’t want to have to go out in this type of weather.  I would rather just cover my head with the covers and burrow in my bed until the storm is over.  Do you ever feel this way?

I imagine all of us want to avoid the difficulties of our lives at some point.  Maybe you don’t want to avoid the weather, but there are other situations and people that we all wish we could avoid from time-to-time.  We all wish to hide from our lives, our relationships, even our very selves from time-to-time.  Eventually, we have to come out of our hibernation and deal with the storm.  We have to be willing to have the confrontation in order to reconcile.  We have to make adjustments to either repair or move through a situation.  The urge to hide is still there.  The storm is still messy.  There may be some anxiety about dealing with the issue at hand.  We still have to deal with it.  If we don’t, then we cannot move forward.  If we don’t face this storm of our lives, then we are impeded from growing and the next storm is that much more difficult to face.

The storms are often difficult to face, but we are able to grow when we face them.  We are able to move forward in our lives.  We are able to rejoice that we have indeed made it to the other side of the storm.  Tonight I will be going to my dinner meeting armed with a raincoat and umbrella.  My prayer is that you will face the storms of your surrounded by God‘s protection and love.
