I used to think that a creative person was someone who created art. The creative people were painters, sculptors, quilt makers, and others who created a visual piece of art. I have since come to understand that there are many types of creativity, and we all need to develop our creativity. Creativity is the ability to generate new ideas and ways of doing things. It is process of thinking of new things, dreaming new dreams, seeing new possibilities. Creativity allows us to move beyond what we are doing now to go in new directions. Creativity is our dreams.

We all need to be creative, but it is more difficult for some of us. Some of us are naturally coming up with new ideas and new possibilities without even trying. Some of us are more practical, and we struggle to think beyond our current reality. We know the truth of the current reality, so we have trouble imagining beyond it.

Yet, God has called each of to a greater vision of what might be. Christians pray for the kingdom of God to come, which is radically different from the way the world is now. We are seeking a new reality, and we need to be able to see the vision of what might be the new reality or vision for us.

We are called to dream of what might be. We are called to have a vision for how we may become. We are called to be creative, to think “outside the box”, and to be agents for transformation. We are all creative. If we allow ourselves, we can all see a vision of what might be, what might happen, and who we might become. Today, give yourself the opportunity to unleash your own creativity. It may be that you create something. It may be that you create a vision in your mind of what might be. Take time to be creative.
