There was a television series called Quantum Leap that ran from 1989 to 1993. In the series, Sam, a time traveler, goes back into time to fix the wrongs. He goes back to make things right. Sometimes I wish I could go back to fix the things that have gone wrong. The things that I have done wrong. The tragedies that may have been prevented if I could changed something. Unfortunately, there is no real time travel. We cannot fix past. We cannot make it right. We cannot even fix some of our own mistakes.
Instead we have to accept ourselves and others as flawed human beings. We all make mistakes, some grater than others. We all have done things we wish we had not done. But, we cannot make it right. Only God can make things right. This does not mean that God changes our past, but God forgives and uses the wrongs for God’s glory. Even the mistakes, sins, and inappropriate actions of our past can be used by God. We may not understand how, but God can use the things of our life for blessing. God can use all things in our lives and in the lives of those around us, but we have to allow God to use us and our actions. Too often we try to hide the parts of our life that make us feel ashamed or embarrassed. We try to hide the mistakes. Burying things allows them to fester rather than heal.
Mistakes, failures, and shortcomings are a part of the human experience. We cannot go back and change things, but God can use them for God’s glory. You cannot make it right, but God can make it right.
